If only...

"If we only had yesterday, what the kids are using today, imagine what could have been."

I was heading for the water fountain at the gym when I over heard these two guys talking:

"If we had all these new fitness techniques and devices back in our day, can you imagine how it could have been?"

I feel confident in assuming that those who weren't born into this golden age of technology and the miracles that so seamlessly come with it, have had that thought a least one time.

If only...

Busy working out on one the latest high tech exercise machines they are yesterday's dreamers, reminiscing about their days gone by.

As I get to the fountain and begin to sip, I can also hear a couple guys working out a few feet away. They were young kids, clear benefactors of the technological advances of the 21st century.

"Old school! You've got to stick with the basics..."

is how one coached the other on using one of the gyms 'ancient' pull-up bars.

I stop drinking because the irony of these two activities and conversations gave me something to think about.

"It's all about the fundamentals. You've got to stick with the basics. There is no way to get around the fact that it is all about just doing the work".

Two generations , two different conversations, intersecting and me quietly caught somewhere in the middle.

If only...

Helluva question...

That’s my two cents (for whatever it’s worth),
