Books: Rich and Poor: Photographs by Jim Goldberg
Why I am recommending this book:Because Jim Goldberg brilliantly captures the stunning contrast between extreme ends of the economic spectrum, and in the process he manages to reveal remarkable human frailty that waxes poetic.

This intriguing book of photographs juxtaposes two economic classes in a manner that highlights their similarities as well as their differences. Both classes, poor and rich, are seen in their homes, by turns squalid and opulent. All the subjects, however, appear alienated, vulnerable, and insecure. The visual information is expanded upon by comments the subjects themselves have written under their portraits, comments that make the impact of the pictures even stronger. These remarkably frank statements, each reproduced in the subject's own hand, reflect highly personal feelings about self-image, family, hopes, and fears.
